Aeronautical/ Aerospace Engineering is a branch of study that deals with the design, testing and manufacture of aircraft. Engineers in this field specialise in various areas like propulsion systems, flight mechanics, heat transfer, operations research, aerospace management, radar and radio communication devices related to aviation and so on.
ISRO Chairman, G. Madhavan Nair says, “In the next ten years, there will be a huge demand of 1,000 new civilian aircraft for long and short haul flights. It's time the Indian Aeronautics industry wakes up and captures the national market.”
By 2013, it is estimated that the number of aircraft owned by the airline companies in India would touch 300. This would require employment of at least 20,000 qualified engineers. Presently, only ten per cent of industry-ready engineers are employed.
This interesting piece of information brings into sharp focus the future growth of the aeronautical industry. It also indicates that career prospects for you as an aeronautical engineer are very bright.
